So this is what I’ve been working on-

It’s called Branching Out. It will hopefully be a pretty lace scarf for…er…somebody. Dunno who yet. Maybe Matt’s mom. This one is working out so much better than the nastily boring feather and fan pattern that I gleefully ripped back. On the workfront, classes are going sooooo much better this semester. My students are much less thuggish. Sixth period is a class of 8 girls–it’s like teaching private school.

I am finished times two. First, I am finished with the @#%$ing essays. And second, I am finished with this:

That my dear friends is a knitted hat in a pattern called Foliage. This means that I have a Christmas present completed in January! Feel free to hate me. Now I vow to work on this:

which is a Persephone Scarf designed by S.M. Kahn. This scarf is a present to me, but I always feel guilty when I make something for myself. Don’t know why–only know it’s silly.

Today is 7th period midterm day, and I don’t have a 7th period which means I don’t have to go to work. I should be deliriously happy right? Right? But…I’m grading midterms…still… They are so bad. No, they are worse than bad. They laugh at bad while smoking cigarettes and wearing dirty underwear just in case they get hit by a car so the people in the hospital think their mothers let them go out dressed like that. Grading these is about as much fun as rasping off my own eyebrows with a nailfile. Alcohol might make this easier (certainly couldn’t make it worse). If you are within the sound of my text–please bring over Coca-Cola, orange juice, Sunny Delight, anything. My fridge is empty and if I leave to go the store, I won’t come home. I need mixers. It’s a little early to drink rum straight from the bottle, and that’s starting to sound like a frighteningly good idea.

Two gems from the essay midterms I graded today– “Now that Jorge W. Bush is President…” “Several years ago Bill Clinton lied about having sex with Hilary.” I’d lie about that too.

The super cool yarn that I had on order from Herrshners was indefinately backordered. It was a really great deal from their clearance bin so the hope that it will one day actually arrive is pretty much nil. So sad… But now I can buy the yarn for Linnea’s hat. I bounce back easily from these tragedies.

So the knitting fairy gave out her Christmas presents this year to the family who received Harry Potter hats in the House colors they favored most (or in Matt’s case, the left over House since he refused to pick one). I’m still making my Slytherin hat. Represent!

Adrienne requested the Ravenclaw book colors.  Do you know how hard it is to find bronze colored yarn?

Dad looks so gosh darned happy in his hat–makes me proud!

Isn’t me mum so cute! Very photogenic.

The Hufflepuff hat turned out to be more of a Charlie Brown hat.
